What's so clever about it?
Blinkplan has numerous features that save you time, reduce frustration (manual page count, anyone?) and reduce the margin for error. Here are a few of the smart things it does:
- You can create different content types (eg, ads, editorial, free ads, promotions) and these can be colour-coded according to your own needs
- At all times, totals for each content type, and a grand total, are visible
- Once you've entered the sizes of the sections you'll be printing, Blinkplan lets you know if you try to insert too many pages, or have too few
- It also shows you possible section-break locations for stitch-ins/bind-ins
- If you move a double page spread (DPS) to a new location, the affected pages re-flow automatically
- Blinkplan can generate a printable PDF (View sample flatplan)
- It can also be viewed via a unique web link, which you can send out to any number of defined mailing lists (such as to Advertising, Editorial or All)
Who's it for?
Blinkplan is an ingenious system for magazine staff who are responsible for creating the flatplan or pagination for their titles. It's a time-saver first and foremost, and much more convenient than using a design package or spreadsheet to create flatplans.
If you're sick of counting ads and coming up with the wrong total; if you have better things to do with your time than figure out where your section breaks are for bind-ins; if you tear your hair out every time you have to move 100 pages just to relocate one spread, you need Blinkplan.
How does the software work?
If your magazine signs up as a subscriber to Blinkplan, you can use the online software to create and modify flatplans. These are stored on Blinkplan's secure server and you can access them from any internet-connected computer in the world.
At any time, you can send it to colleagues for viewing, either as a printable PDF or via a url they can click on in order to view the plan through any internet browser.
What do I need?
Blinkplan is an elegantly-designed web-application, and can be used with any modern web browser that supports web-standards. We recommend Mozilla Firefox 3 (download for free here), or Apple's Safari 3 (download for free here). Internet Explorer is currently not supported. We cannot guarantee Blinkplan will work on other web browsers.
